Big thanks to Wayfair for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own!
Ah you guys, I’m so excited and scared to share this post with you! It’s the first glance at how our living room is coming together and really the first space I’ve ever shared with you of our home that I’ve decorated. I’m seriously obsessed with how it’s looking and I hope you’ll feel the same way. Although, even if you don’t, I won’t be mad and I’ll still be in love with it 😉
If you remember in the little house tour of our new place I shared, I mentioned that I was going for a Modern/Industrial look; think West Elm meets Restoration Hardware. So far I think I’ve created that look, leaning a little more towards the modern end. I really want our living room to feel cozy and inviting and be a place where we can relax after a long day. Modern decor isn’t usually something you think of as cozy, so it’s definitely been a challenge to combine these two.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of cozy is soft, fluffy things. So of course I had to have some fur pillows and a comfy throw. If you’ve ever been on the hunt for faux fur pillows, you know it’s hard to find the perfect one. There are so many that feel cheap and yucky and shed like crazy. These ones are seriously perfect. Not only are they the exact color I wanted, but they are so soft and don’t shed at all. They came as pillow covers so I bought some cheap $5 pillows from Wal-mart to fill them; which are actually extremely comfy.
The more I started pulling together some pieces into a style board for this space, the more I realized I wanted a pretty neutral color palette. Another element that I think brings coziness to a space. It just has a calming effect. To go along with my fluffy, fur pillows, I wanted to add some more texture so I added these darker charcoal waffle knit pillows. I love the pattern on them and they tie in perfectly with the throw.
Before we moved, I sold our coffee table because it just didn’t fit with the style I was going for. You don’t realize how much you use one until it’s gone. I searched for a while for the perfect one until I found this one on Wayfair. I loved the rustic top paired with the modern legs and knew it was going to work perfectly as the centerpiece of the room.
The color was a little lighter than I thought it looked online, which I was a little concerned about at first. I wasn’t sure if it clashed with the wood finish on the mirror, and the darker stained piece we’re using for our tv. But the more I looked at it, it just felt right.
Now for styling this thing. It was empty for a while and I was having a really hard time coming up with what to do with it. I knew I wanted to use some greenery to add a little pop of color in this space, so succulents were obviously a given. But they needed a home. Candles were another given, because let’s face it, you can’t have a cozy space without candles. This is where I definitely got a little anal. I’ll admit it. I really wanted to keep a cohesive look and refused to buy anything that wasn’t white or grey. And now I probably won’t ever light those candles because they’re just so perfect and I don’t want to ruin them! Anyone else do this? I have backups I bring out that we actually light. True story.
To finish it off, I found some cheapo hard cover books at a local thrift store to add some height to the arrangement. Me and my friend literally rifled through stacks of books looking for white ones with gold writing that didn’t have titles like “My Life in Heels” and luckily it ended successfully 🙂
Let’s just soak in all this prettiness shall we?
Even though only this little nook of our living room is complete so far, it’s already starting to feel like home. I have to say I’m pretty impressed with myself; decorating a space from scratch is no joke. Now I just need to do the rest of it 🙂

Haeley @ Design Improvised
Love that table and you styled it perfectly! I always struggle to style my coffee table (that and it is usually covered in toys…for the past week it has been covered by an in-progress Lego set!). Love the baskets on the wall too!

Thank you so much Haeley! That means a lot, because I definitely struggled with trying to come up with the perfect vignette!

That’s a cute space! I love white and grey together- neutrals are the best when it comes to creating cozy spaces!
Also, I completely know how you feel about the candles. I have so many that smell and look awesome but I’m too afraid to light them cause they’ll run out! I need to get myself a few backups too (thanks for the tip).
Love the coffee table too! Light-washed wood is so pretty.
