I’m happy to say that my first project was a great success! We had a ghetto shelf that our TV was on with a decorative shawl hanging over it to hide all our junk. (ie. hubby’s playstation/nintendo). I’ve been seeing so many of these transformations on Pinterest and always thought it was such a great idea. I was on the Craigslist hunt for a while, but couldn’t find the perfect piece. Last week my coworker, Jen, mentioned that she was having a garage sale. I asked if she happened to have any old dressers she might be planning to get rid of and she did! The cost you ask? A 6-pack. Can’t beat that price. This dresser has been with her since she was in college (I won’t disclose her age) 🙂 but It’s seen better days. Thanks Jen! I love how this Dresser Turned TV Console turned out!
This is what it looked like when I got it home. Since it was already painted brown I didn’t really need to do much sanding. I fixed up a few broken ends and smoothed it out a bit. I originally had bought some paint + primer in one which turned out to be horrible and dried clear after I put it on. A quick run to the hardware store and I was back on track. I picked up some regular white paint and some finish.
After 3 coats of paint, I let it dry overnight, and then sprayed on the Rust-oleum finish the next day. One more night of drying and I was ready to add my hardware. I found these at Hobby Lobby for $2. I love them!
I’ve seen some other projects on Pinterest where people add wallpaper to the insides of drawers and thought I would try something similar. I didn’t use wallpaper but I had some fabric I recently bought to recover our kitchen chairs. Hubs had the perfect piece of wood that fit right on the top shelf of the dresser. I used a staple gun to cover the wood and I just love the extra pop it gives the piece.
One last thing before bringing this baby inside. We needed a hole to put the cords through. Gotta give credit to the hubby for this one. He got a drill from work and drilled a hole in the center of the back to accommodate our electronics. And of course I wanted to rearrange the living room and what better time to do it than at 9:30 pm?
I think this piece turned out great and love the way it makes our little living room feel more homier. Hope you enjoyed!
