I’m happy to share my first guest post from Sue Jason over at My Bathrooms Blog.  They have some really great products you can check out and today she’s sharing with us her tips on repurposing various pieces around your home to use in your bathroom. Over to you, Sue!

Hi my name is Sue Jason and I am a blogger at My Bathrooms Blog. I have a passion for sharing ideas which include home improvement and decor.

If you have just paid out a fortune for your new bathroom suite, you may well have used up every penny in the décor budget too and now be at a loose end as to how to make your bathroom pop. Before you dig out your credit card and prepare to max that sucker out at your local home décor store, have a look around your own home first, especially in the loft, shed or box room – anywhere that you store old or unwanted pieces of furniture and accessories.

Small Cupboards to Wall Mounted Luxury

While you may not think that you have enough space in the bathroom for one or two of your old cabinets you may be surprised at how easily you can wall mount a small cupboard, instantly creating a huge amount of storage space while not taking up a single foot of bathroom floor space! You may also use an old ladder, paint it and it will be as good as new!

Table Vanity

If you have an old-fashioned small, but tall table; such as those that used to be kept in entrance halls, or used as telephone tables, you have the perfect item to transform into the ideal vanity for your bathroom: pretty, well-made and just the right size!

Chest of Basin?

In a more generous bathroom an old chest of drawers or sideboard works well as a semi-free-standing basin surround. Strip it down and repaint it in the colors that you have chosen for your bathroom, including a thick waterproof layer. Install a shallow basin on top of the unit and enjoy the generous amount of storage underneath!

Chalk It Up!

When you have finished your bathroom décor, add a quirky and fun element by painting a cabinet door (or simply framing a piece of wood and painting that for something a bit more portable!) with chalk board paint. You can draw beautiful pictures, doodle or even write reminders to the rest of the family ‘Put the lid on the toothpaste!’ or ‘Rinse the basin when you are done’. You could even let the children practice their lettering or draw interesting pictures for you! A fun and creative way to make the bathroom just a little bit more interesting!

Iron Chairs Never Die!

If you have an old wrought-iron chair (and there are an astonishing amount of them around!) you may hate it, yet not want to throw it away. These chairs can be heavy, ugly and uncomfortable to sit on, not seeming right in the living room, garden or conservatory – but, they are curiously charming when cleaned, painted and placed in the bathroom! Pile your chair high with thick fluffy towels to create an inviting and cozy atmosphere, sure to appeal to family members and guests alike.

Such great ideas to redo your bathroom if you’re on a budget! Love that chalk paint around the bathroom mirror. Perfect if you have kids and want to leave them messages/reminders 🙂 Thanks so much, Sue!
