I’m so excited to share with you our updated half bathroom! We tackled this space 5 years ago and while I still loved the design of it, functionally some things were not working well anymore. So I took this opportunity to give it a little refresh and make it feel more cozy with a vintage inspired vibe in partnership with Lowe’s.

THE BEFORE OF OUR HALF BATH

Here is what it used to look like. The main issues we had were with the faucet and vanity.

Green and White Color Block Tile Bathroom

We used to have super hard water until we got a softener, and it did a number on the faucet. It was super corroded and impossible to turn the handles. And this is a bathroom the kids use constantly so we needed to have a faucet that was easy for them to use.

Honestly, even before the hard water did a number on it, the water flow was never great and it was still hard to turn the handles.

As for the vanity…I found it for $3o on marketplace and refinished it. It’s a great little cabinet, but after time the wood started to split on the top and sides. So before it totally fell apart, we needed to replace that too.

I went back to marketplace to see what I could find, because I still like the look of using an old piece of furniture for a vanity – it adds so much charm! I ended up scoring this beautiful oak dresser for $75 and it was much sturdier and solid than what we had before.

If you’ve been following for a while, you know how much I love my dark walnut gel stain. This dresser was already beautiful as is, but the finish was a little too orange for me, so I sanded it down and gave it a fresh coat of stain.

After having a wood top on our old vanity, I didn’t love how it held up over time. So I decided to do stone on this one. I went to the local stoneyard, Battista Granite, who fabricated the stone for our kitchen. I found the most beautiful remnant piece of Mont Blanc quartzite and had them fabricate it to fit our sink.

Shopping remnants is such a great way to get the designer look on a budget! It instantly elevated the look of my little vintage dresser.

I had papa help me with lots of whizz banging (aka the oscillating multi-tool) to make room for all the plumbing in the vanity. One of the only cons of using an old dresser as a vanity is that is needs adjustments so that everything fits underneath. Thankfully we were able to still keep the functionality of the drawers!

If you’re a DIYer and don’t own this tool, you need one in your life! We use it for everything and it’s so multi functional.

Once we had the vanity set it was time to put it all together and add some finishing touches.

OUR COZY VINTAGE HALF BATHROOM

Most of what I used in this bathroom came from Lowe’s who is always our go-to for DIY tools and supplies. But I was pleasantly surprised at their selection of home decor too. It all started with this gorgeous vintage inspired faucet that was the inspiration for this whole refresh.

It looks incredibly high end with its elegant brass finish and beautiful curves but is so affordable. The quality is also top notch and it was super easy to install.

I love the way it pairs with our vessel sink with rounded edges – it’s such a unique shape and I can never say no to more curves.

To finish off the vanity, I found the most beautiful hardware at Lowe’s. I’ve always admired the large selection they have in store, but they have an even larger selection online with so many different styles.

Vintage Dresser Turned bathroom Vanity

I found the most perfect aged brass knobs for the top drawers, and the most gorgeous handles for the larger ones. I’ll never get sick of how brass and dark walnut look together, it’s my favorite combination to use in our home!

Charming Vintage Bathroom Lighting

The other big change we made in here was the lighting. It’s amazing how a simple lighting change can have such a big impact. I wanted something a little softer and less modern and these gorgeous brass mini pendants with frosted glass shades couldn’t be more perfect.

To tie into our faucet, I chose a new towel hook and toilet paper holder in the same beautiful brass finish. They also have a vintage flare to them and add another element of warmth to this room.

While I do love my brass, I didn’t want to go overboard. So for the switch plate covers I found these great wooden ones and stained them the same color as the vanity. It helps tie into the wood of the shelf as well and was another fun way to bring in my favorite wood tone.

And what room refresh would be complete without some vintage touches?! I found this beautiful antique arched wood mirror on marketplace and made a fun little gallery wall with some thrifted frames and artwork. Added in some hydrangeas from our yard, and some dried florals and this space was done!

I love how these updates totally changed the feel of this little half bathroom. It feels so much cozier now and has so much more character! It’s a room that’s used very often and needed to function better for us. And now it’s got the best of both worlds…beauty and function!
