How is it already week 3?! I can’t believe we’re half way through this renovation but it’s SO exciting seeing it all come together! If you’re just joining, make sure to go back and check out week 2 HERE and week 1 HERE.
We made some really good progress this week with the floor and some cabinets! Let’s chat about the cabinets first. So I wanted two tall ones for the wall across from the washer and dryer that a bench would go in between. I kept searching online and couldn’t really find ones I liked, or the ones I did seemed cheap and not worth it. The only unfinished ones I could find were a little pricey but I was willing to pay if that was all I could find. The day I was going to pull the trigger and make a purchase my FIL called me and told me to stop by the job he was working on. He lays tile for a living and was working on a house that day and the cabinets were measured wrong and couldn’t be used. They were perfect. We got a hella deal on them and he brought them home the next day 🙂
They’re made of particle board which is totally fine with me, it just meant a little more prep work. I sanded them both down and gave them two coats of primer.
I really wanted to use Sherwin Williams Pro Classic Paint but they don’t have a dark base for it and since I wanted navy paint, it wouldn’t work. So they recommended their Solo paint which I’ve been super happy with so far!
I sat at Sherwin Williams for a solid hour before deciding on Anchors Aweigh.
I was a little nervous because the first coat went on super blue, but once I added more it got nice and dark. I’ve still got maybe one more coat left and then I need to seal them up and add some pretty hardware 🙂 I think I’m going to leave the insides as is for now too. So those will get installed this weekend once they’re all dry!
Ok now for the floor! Here’s a reminder of what it looked like before:
My FIL decided it would be easiest to just work over the existing tile so first he put some skim coat down.
Then it was tile time! I decided on some rectangular porcelain tiles that look pretty much exactly like concrete for a quarter of the price.
So so lucky we had him to do this for us! What took him about 3 hours total would have taken us days.
Ah I’m loving it! This is without the grout.
And this was shortly after the grout was in and it was still drying a bit.
AND our new washer and dryer are coming TODAY! woo hoo!! Our hamper is about to explode.
Ok so let’s see how we’re doing:
Tear down existing wall tileInstall new DrywallTape and patch drywall and other holes in the wallsPaint wallsRemove old lightand install new one- Tile wall that washer and dryer are on
Tile over existing floor tile with new tile- Reattach base boards and trim
- Paint sink vanity
- Install sink into vanity

They look great! Planning to do some changes to my home too. Hopefully, it goes to plan, I already have few ideas on what to do. But will surely search for more. Anyways, thank you for sharing this. Cheers!
Heather
Wow, that floor looks so much better than what was there before! And the paint job on the cabinets is lovely. Thanks for sharing!
Christina
Your father in law’s help with the tile must have been well appreciated. Choosing a tile that has the appearance of concrete for significantly less was a nice move as well.

Hi Katy! So it’s actually porcelain tile meant to look like concrete! It was super affordable. We got it from a friend who owns a local tile shop but the brand is called Sintesi Italian Tile. I hope that helps! I love it so much 🙂
Shannon Sadik
Could you provide the name of your local tile store? I’m obsessed with this tile but I’ve googled and called around and no one can identify this flooring for me. I’d love to find out where I can get it, if not from your local tile store. Thx!
brepurposed
Oh gosh sorry you’re having such a hard time tracking it down! Our local store is called Buckeye Ceramic Tile in Youngstown, OH. Ask for Jeff or just mention that you saw it on my blog and they should be able to help you out!

I just got Anchors Aweigh for my entryway and put the first coat on because I couldn’t wait! I, too, was nervous about how blue it was, but I know not to judge before seeing it finished. I LOVE the way these look with multiple coats. It’s such a pretty color!
